Derwin Smiley, AMB-L®

Derwin Smiley is the pastor of New Bethel Tabernacle Church and CEO of The Society for Diversity and its subsidiary, the Institute for Diversity Certification (IDC)®. As CEO, Derwin oversees the company’s strategic priorities and leads the corporate giving initiatives.


Derwin is the former host of The Derwin Smiley Show, an Indianapolis-area television program. For 11 years, Mr. Smiley’s team produced a 30-minute, monthly program that was designed to "Inspire The Greatness In You." From interviewing internationally renowned guests such as Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West, to discussing community issues and interests, his show was highly successful. Two of Mr. Smiley’s greatest accomplishments were being honored by the Society of Professional Journalists for Indiana’s 2012-13 “Best In Indiana Journalism” Award for the Coverage of Minority Issues category, and being commissioned by the 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee to document the Super Bowl Legacy Project that revitalized the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. The 4-part series aired on WFYI, a PBS-affiliate.


With over 10-years of experience working with youth, including 6 years as a middle school teacher for Indianapolis Public Schools, Mr. Smiley is a dynamic facilitator that uses ingenious illustrations to drive his points home. 


Derwin has a master’s degree in elementary education from Oakland City University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hampton University. He is an Ordained Elder of the P.A.W. (Pentecostal Assemblies of the World) and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
